CREATING AN AMAZING KIDS BIRTHDAY PARTY

To be honest, if I had a massive playdate with all of our children’s friends they would probably have just as much fun.  I know this, and I still can’t help myself!  I remember the trouble my mother went to making our birthday parties amazing and I want that memory for our kids.  Some might say I go overboard, (my hubby included) and I would probably agree with them!  I blame it entirely on how I react to being inspired.  Join me and be immersed in glitter to muddy fun!

Friends and Family

The key to a great birthday party isn’t the theme, the cake or even the games.  It’s the friendships, the family and the huge hug you receive from being in a room filled with the people that mean the world to you.   Everyone has incredibly busy lifestyles, birthday parties give you an excuse to gather everyone around for a celebration.

Kids Birthday Themes

Let’s begin with the theme!  There are so many inspirational ideas on Pinterest, in department stores like Kmart and Big W and trending themes inspired by popular films, TV shows and movies.  For both of our children, the only themes I had a say in were the first few years.   1st and 2nd birthday parties were themed around the Jungle, Ladybugs and Rainbows.    10 years of boy’s birthday parties and 7 of girls, we have done everything from epic Monster Truck birthdays through to Mermaid Sleepovers.  Enjoy scrolling through the birthday themes for ideas and inspiration.

The Birthday Cake

I have always been one of those crazy mums that like to make the cake each year!  I seem to look at an idea and then immediately assume I can do it.  Learning as I go, I have all fingers and toes crossed that it holds up until the cake cutting!  Then I can relax.  Recently though I did have a bit of a fail with the mermaid tail cake not holding up, but that’s ok, it looked great for around 2 minutes!:)

Birthday Party Venue

Having two winter babies really limits our venue choices for birthday parties.  Indoors it is!  The majority of our parties are held at our home.  There did come a point though where it was obvious (especially for boys parties) that our house wasn’t going to cut it!  We need space for kids to run, play and be active.  We have experienced fantastic birthday parties at playcentres, leisure centres, Inflatable World’s and Bounce function rooms.  We wanted somewhere different!  Included in the blog are reviews on birthday parties at Timezone, Archie Brothers and NRG Force.

To costume or not to costume – That is the question

Bottom line is (pardon the pun) kids love to dress up!  When deciding on a theme and writing your invitations, it is always nice to include whether the children need to come dressed in theme.  To save parents rushing around to try and find a costume for their child I do have an alternative.  Have themed accessories ready for all of the guests.  Take the Pirate Party for example, each guest received an eye patch, bandana, hook and an earing.  Kids excited to dress up – TICK.  Parents don’t have to stress – TICK! TICK!

The Party Food

I love indulging in the birthday theme with a dessert table full of themed delights.  I know, too many sweets!  What’s a party that isn’t a bit indulgent?  For all of the health conscious don’t worry, we always do counteract the bad with the good adding some healthy goodness as well!  It is not surprising though that the fresh fruit and vegetables actually disappear first.

Birthday Party Games

Kids birthday party games have not evolved much from when I was a child.  Good old favourites including Pin the Tail on the Donkey, Pass the Parcel, Musical Chairs – they all still work!  It’s exciting to create new games for the children to enjoy.  Playing around with Lego games, inflatable obstacle courses and craft ideas are just few of the creative fun ideas featured in the blog.

Say Cheessse!

A photobooth is always fun – Don’t worry -I’m not hiring a photobooth company.  This is a Melbourne suburban birthday party on a budget.  I’m talking about creating a fun backdrop for the kids DIY photobooth style.  A fun balloon rainbow, epic cardboard monster truck and more!
